About Medini
Research,Restore,Regenerate,Reuse
A Living Experiment
Medini is not just a homestay—it's a living experiment grounded in research, practice, and regeneration.
Transformation Story
Started in 2018 as a barren 4-acre field with five trees, Medini is now a thriving farm with 600+ native trees, fruits, flowers, dye plants, and rich biodiversity.
Research to Practice
Medini grew from Anna-Louise’s research on eri silk traditions and Champak’s cultural roots in tourism, becoming a space where research and tradition live on, with culture and climate at the core.

Our Approach
Restore, Regenerate, Reuse—guiding every action from farming, Construction to waste management
We avoid single-use plastics, and all non-plastic waste is reused or regenerated, whether it's paper, glass, metal, water, kitchen waste, or cow dung.
This philosophy of circularity has earned Medini recognition and demonstrates that sustainable tourism can be both environmentally responsible and economically viable.

Circular & Biodiverse
Three Interconnected Verticals
Medini is built on three interconnected verticals that work together to create a holistic sustainable experience
Tourism
The Homestay
A design-led, comfortable retreat amidst farmland.
Agriculture
600+ Trees & Plants Cultivated
A living model of natural agriculture and biodiversity.
Textile
The Weave Studio Heritage Preservation
The Weave Studio – A space where textiles, traditions, and natural dyeing techniques thrive.
A Thriving Community Network
As partnerships flourish across villages, casting a warm glow upon the collaborative spirit and shared prosperity, the community ecosystem sets the stage for tranquil serenity.
Each vertical supports and enhances the others—our farm provides fresh ingredients for the homestay kitchen, natural dyes for the weaving studio, and creates the biodiverse environment that guests experience.
The weaving studio preserves cultural heritage while providing authentic experiences for visitors.

People of Medini
Medini is built not just by a family but by an entire community. Every member—whether in weaving, cooking, farming, or hospitality—comes from nearby villages, representing diverse religions and backgrounds. This ensures authenticity while directly empowering the local economy.

Champak Deka
Former Indian Navy sailor and a deep sea commercial diver, Champak is the driving force behind Medini. His expertise in natural farming, sustainable waste management, and multi-layered agriculture has transformed barren land into a thriving ecosystem.

Anna-Louise Meynell
Textile designer and researcher from Scotland, Anna-Louise leads Medini’s weaving studio. She has stepped into her PhD research on eri silk traditions in a practical nature, continuing weaving and natural dyeing practices, preserving heritage while creating livelihood opportunities.

Mrinalini Deka (Aita)
The culinary heart of Medini, Aita shares her ancestral recipes and traditional cooking techniques with guests. She ensures the farm-to-fork experience is a true reflection of Assam's gastronomic heritage, using fresh vegetables from the farm. Her contribution goes beyond the kitchen, as she also shares her knowledge and insights into the local culture, textiles and traditions with guests.
Community & Collaborations
Medini thrives on collaboration and community partnerships

Every partnership strengthens Medini's ethos of inclusion and equality, creating a network of collaboration that benefits the entire community while preserving and celebrating local culture and traditions.
